Travel around East Java
East Java has many interesting temple sites
that are spread quite widely around the province. The principal sites are Trowulan
in Mojokerto, Singasari near Malang, Candi Jago at Tumpang and Candi
Panataran near Blitar. These could conceivably be visited in a
weekend from Surabaya with an overnight stay in Blitar (in this case
Trowulan should be visited last on the way back from Blitar).
For those interested to see most of the sites
an itinerary is recommended here. It involves travelling either East
from Solo, or South from Surabaya with the following stops offering
at least one days' worth of visits. Each location is discussed in
more detail on the dedicated pages. As most sites are in remote
areas, the trip is best made with a car and driver.
