Origins

Candi Gayatri is in Tulungagung. Candi Gayatri houses a statue of Prajnaparamita. This temple is most likely the one referred to as Bhayalango in the Nagarakrtagama (Canto 19, 69) and one of two locations where the Rajapatni was enshrined. The Rajapatni was buddhist and her funeral is extensively described in the Nagarakrtagama (Cantos 63-69). Buddhist priests officiated at the ceremony, and princes and officials came to pay homage, and made offerings to ensure the Rajapatni's return to the realm of the Buddha.
