What is a Candi?

In this Web I use the word to refer to any stone remains. Typically such remains are temple remains, but they can also be the remains of a funebral structure or another site of a (semi-) religious nature.
The word 'candi' is said to derive from Candika, one of the consorts of Lord Siva. Originally the word was used solely to refer to a stone memorial erected over the ashes of a diseased person. Now the meaning has widened as noted above.
