Description of architecture The temple, with its simple plan and short body belongs in style to the earlier Hindu temples, such as Dieng. Description of reliefs The main cella contains a Nandi. The flat outer walls are decorated with 2-3 panels each showing kinnara or elephant at the bottom with elaborate decorations overhead, of a style that is also seen at Prambanan. At the side of the main entrance apsara and human figures may be seen. Rediscovery and restoration First mentioned by Junghuhn in his list of Javanese ruins, later described by Hoepermans. After Hoepermans described by Brandes, Van Erp [1909] and Knebel [1911]. The site also accomodates remains of Candi Perot, a nearby temple that was badly overgrown by a tree, and collapsed during heavy storms in 1907. The Archeological Service studied Candi Perot in 1903, and made photographs. Mounted: 6-Jan-06กก |
